*Keeshond*




*The Keeshond (pronounced KAZE-hond) breed is a medium-sized dog and has a wolflike coat forming a lionlike mane around its foxlike face. The breed was used by the Dutch as a barge dog and became a symbol for the Dutch patriots during the eighteenth century.

*Description: Intelligent...alert...no desire to hunt.

*Behavior: Behavior problems may include trouble with housebreaking and training, while some owners say their dogs are stubborn. Also, owners of the breed insist that the Keeshond's habit of baring its teeth in a menacing way is simply a submissive grin. If this is the case, the Keeshond shares this behavior with the fox.

*The Lhasa Apso breed is a Tibetan dog that looks like a larger version of the Shih Tzu.

*Description: Intelligent...happy...gentle with people...lively...bold...short-tempered...easily trained...responsive to kindness.

 *Behavior: Behavior problems may include touch shyness, irritable snapping, dominance challenges, guarding objects and places from family members, lunging in a threatening manner when approached and unpredictable aggression toward strangers and even toward family members and friends. The trainer of this dog needs to exhibit consistent dominance and use only rewards to define proper behavior to the dog.

Use discretion...These breeds do not interact well with children who are rowdy and play rough. Close adult supervision is recommended when children are around.
