*English Setter*




*The English Setter breed is a medium sized dog bred for a mix of endurance and athleticism with long, silky hair that feathers on the legs and tail.

*Origin: England

Other names:
Lawerack...Laverack...Llewellin (or Llewellyn) Setter

*Description: Very calm...quite and friendly...active...rugged...outdoor dog more suited to the suburbs than the city.

*Behavior: Behavior problems may include roaming and house soiling. They are usually playful with other dogs, and some show a stubborn streak. English Setters seem to be the least vigorous of the setters.

*Compatible with children:Yes

*Typical Female Weight: 45-55 lbs
*Typical Male Weight: 60-70 lbs

*The Gordon Setter breed (also known as black and tans) has a slightly more powerful body than the English and Irish Setters, with a shorter coat than the English Setter.

*Origin: Scotland

*Description: Loyal...affectionate...tireless worker...a methodically dependable bird finder...may occasionally be aggressive, guarding its owner.

*Behavior: Behavior problems may include roaming, house soiling and perhaps being a picky eater.

*Compatible with children: Yes...Use discretion with very young children. Although patient by nature they can be quite rowdy.

*Typical Female Weight: 45-70 lbs
*Typical Male Weight: 55-80 lbs

*The Irish Setter breed (also known as the Red Setter) with its long, glossy, chestnut-colored coat and exuberant nature, is a very popular dog for a pet.

*Origin: Ireland

*Other names: Red Setter...Irish Red Setter

*Description: Rollicking...happy...excitable...impulsive...has moments of sheer giddiness.

*Behavior: Behavior problems, which may occur from the above description, center on over boisterous and rowdy. Other problems may include roaming, house soiling, mischievous playful destruction, pulling on lead, jumping on visitors and barking. This breed may develop bad habits if left alone or not properly trained.

*Typical Male Weight: 55-75 lbs
