*The Briard (pronounced bree-ARD) breed is a large, shaggy looking French shepherd and guard dog.

*Other names: Berger de Brie, Berger Briard

*Description: Stubborn...fairly bold...possesses spirit and initiative...has a retentive memory...headstrong and difficult unless taught early to obey...possessing a protective instinct.

*The Bullmastiff is a very large breed with a genetic foundation that was 60% Mastiff and 40% Bulldog. The result was the "gamekeeper's night dog," used exclusively to pursue, knock down, and hold intruding poachers. This was the dog that became Sylvester Stallone's companion in the film Rocky.

*Description: Great strength...powerfully built...active...fearless yet docile...having endurance...alert...stubborn.

*Origin: United Kingdom

*Behavior: Behavior problems may involve excessive dominance exhibited toward people it considers submissive, possible dominance-motivated aggression, and pulling on the leash.

*Compatible with children: Yes...Parental supervision should be maintained when they are with children because these dogs are so big that they may accidentally knock smaller children down.
