*Saluki*




*The Saluki, the royal dog breed of Egypt, is considered by some authorities to be the oldest known breed. It has a Greyhound body with feathered ears, tail, and legs. Like the Greyhound, it is a sight hound capable of tremendous speed and agility, but is hardier, able to withstand climatic changes and cold that the Greyhound cannot. Its temperament is like that of the Afghan, but a little less emotional and snappy.

*Other names: Gazelle Hound...Royal Dog of Egypt...Persian Greyhound...Tazi

*Description: Skittish...standoffish even with their masters...easily distracted while training...not very playful...sensitive...intelligent.

*Behavior: Behavior problems may include phobias, irritable snapping, roaming, and house soiling.

*Compatible with children: Use discretion...although each dog is an individual, they generally like children and can be very protective of those they consider part of their pack or family.

*Typical Female Weight: 35-55 lbs
*Typical Male Weight: 45-65 lbs
*Average life span: 12-13 years.

*Scottish Deerhound*


                                                              

*The Scottish Deerhound breed is a large dog reminiscent of, but smaller and slimmer than, the Irish Wolfhound. Its long legs and Greyhound build, slightly obscured by its shaggy coat, are designed for high speed and endurance.

*Description: Gentle...quite...keen scent...not aggressive...great persistence...somewhat timid...not very quick to obey...devoted and loyal to its master...tremendous courage.

*Origin: Scotland

*Other names: Deerhound

*Behavior: No potential behavior problems.

*Compatible with children: Yes

*Typical Female Weight: 75-95 lbs
*Typical Male Weight: 85-110 lbs

*Whippet*


 *The Whippet breed is a small dog that looks like a miniature Greyhound. It is a small sight hound used for racing, coursing rabbits, and killing rats.

*Origin: England
*Description:Quite...gentle...timid...not very playful...not padded for roughhousing and the cold...should be trained gently, never bullied or harshly punished.

*Behavior: Behavior problems may include phobias, house soiling, and timidity.

*Compatible with children: Use discretion...although these breed of dogs are generally good with children, they
should not be teased or rough handled.

*Typical Female Weight: 20-35 lbs
*Typical Male Weight: 25-45 lbs
